Default Key won't retract by itself

When I start the truck, I have to move the key back myself or the starter will just keep going.

Is there an easy fix for this?

I'd just keep it the way it is but I'm afraid that if someone else drives it that it may cause some damage down the road.

Something is binding up. You need to determine whether it's in the ign. cylinder in the column or on the switch itself.

Remove the rectangular cover to access the fusebox. Then the covers on the right and left of the steering column... Now gou will have access yo the bolts holding up the column. Once youve done that and dropped the column you will see the actuating rod on top of the column leading to the ignition switch(see pic below) Within the ignition switch there is some "return spring action" that should occur when starting the engine. however these switches will fall apart as time goes on and there your problem will be found.... Unless you caught a rat one day when u tried to start the engine lol then your problem is a bit different.

Here is a pic of what you will see when you finish removing the parts i mentioned above. Usually the plastic female side will separate from the aluminum its attached to.
As it says in the red writing these things fall apart(i hope flareside doesnt mind considering he made the pic to help another member).

Do yourself a favor and replace the switch now before you or another person gets stranded somewhere. Its cheap enough/easy enough for the average joe to do.

Also remember to play close attention to how it came apart when your putting it back together.

I was told by the guy I bought it from that he put a new switch on and that the problem is the 'tumbler' where the key goes in. He said that they both have a spring and that the spring on the ignition switch isn't strong enough.

Can anyone verify this?
