Fix your spout. The ecm can not adjust the timing.

Ok.....update. Replaced all vacuum lines. no change. Just #6 plug was fowled out. Firing order is correct. Timing is at 10btdc at idle. at 2000 rpm advances to 23-24. Converter glows red after 20 min of idling. Still runs like crap. no power. backfiring. Checked all wiring and connections for corrosion. none. Ideas from here?

What is engine vac? Did u clean the tb,cap, rotor and iac? Ohm test # 6 plug wire. Change #6 plug with a one of the old ones. At lease make sure u have spark at 6. Put injector cleaner in the gas tank just in case #6 is stuck and just needs cleaned. Also helps with water in the tank if there is any. Did u fix the spout problem? At 2000 rpm`s it should`nt be at 10 btdc.

Yea I get that way some times when people don`t fix the known codes or cover the basic`s first. That`s why I don`t post much any more.

UPDATE.........It turned out that the valves on cylinder 6 were burned, but also timing chain had over a 1/2" of slack in it. The lobes on the cam are rounded off on several cylinders. And the cap to it all the harmonic balancer had separated from the shaft. How you ask. Because one of the previous owners replaced the original block with an 1980 5.8 flat tappet cam block. Used the 5.0 upper intake. No one had no way of knowing until it was all torn down. Now the rebuild is on. And will run stronger than ever.
