Carb Problems
So I'm converting my fuel injected 5.8L 351W to carb. I hate to get long into it, but all the emmisions are missing and this is just easier and less expenssive. So I unboxed my edelbrock 1406 600 CFM carb today and started reading. This thing is looking for vaccum hoses for the distributer for timing advance, I don't think my distributer has that. I'm at work and cannot check. It also needs a kick-down cable for the tranny to engage the extra two barrels. I know my auto E40D tranny does not have that.
So my questions are for any carb-smart6 people. How do I go about hookin this up. Should a rig up a hand cable for the kick-down cable?

You don't need any of the emissions crap except the EGR and the truck will run fine with the fuel injection. Your distributor isn't going to work without the computer, so you'll need that. I guess you might be able to wire up something to make the distributor work without the computer, but your transmission also needs the computer to shift properly. If your distributor doesn't have a vacuum advance then that line would be capped. I don't know what you're talking about with the kickdown cable. Transmissions that require a kickdown cable (yours does not) need the stud to attach the cable to the carb and a bracket fabbed up to attach the cable bracket to the engine. The kickdown cable doesn't work the 4 barrels, they are either mechanical from the accelerator linkage or vacuum.

Yeah, I don't have the EGR or anything. The computer can't regulate the fuel at all and the truck just dies. I figured this was my best route. I might be wrong about the cable. I need to do more reading, but it looks as if there are 2 spots for cables. Thanks for the help.

What do you mean "the computer won't regulate the fuel"? That's what the fuel pressure regulator does. The computer fires the injectors. It's probably going to be cheaper and easier to just fix the truck right. You can leave the EGR off too but the truck will run better with it.

I can tell you what to do and what you need, I did it to my old 86 F150, actually ran better and got better mileage than the efi. Best efi mileage from NJ to Atlanta, 4 tanks w\efi, just over 3 tanks w\ 1850 holley carb.

I did a cam upgrade which I found out these engines hate after I purchased all the parts. And I guessed the computer couldn't regluate everything with all the changed and missing parts. All my mech buddies told me to just throw a carb on. So that's what I have set off to do. By no means does it have to be pretty or pure. Its a nasty off road mud truck as you can see form the pics.
Not to sound like a dick but I'm so far down this road that the EFI does not make sense for me to do.
