I bought a 1990 F-150(5.0, 5spd, 4wd, dual tanks) a couple of months ago. The night I picked it up I stopped at a gas station to fill the tanks. The front would not take any gas. It would take a couple cents worth then the pump would shut off. The gas guage was showing only 1/4 tank. I tried only holding the pump handle down a little bit to slow the flow, only put the pump nozzle in a little bit, hold it at different angles, none of that worked. So to be on the safe side I put gas in the rear tank, no issues. Of course when I switch to the rear tank the gas guage doesnt work at all. Anyhow, I kept running the front tank until the truck started to die to be sure it was almost empty. I went back to a gas station and it still wouldnt take any gas. So I've been running the rear tank. No issues except I dont know how much gas I have. I ran the rear tank for about 150 miles and went to the gas station to top off... Now the back wont take any gas either. I removed the filler hose between the bed and fuel tank on the front tank to check for obstructions.. there were none. It has locking gas caps so I dont think anyone shoved something in my tanks. Im at a loss as to what the problem may be.... Any suggestions?

Did you check the black hose that's inside the filler neck? I kinked mine putting it back in and now it takes forever to fill without the pump clicking off.

Go under the truck and make sure the filler hose isn't pinched or collapsed.

.trucks have a hose inside of the filler hose the iner hose lets gas in the outer hose lets air out if the iner hose is colapsed or damaged it won let fuel through while the outer hose may look fine.The only way to replace it with new part is from Ford At damm near $300 or hit the wrecking yard. the ford part is pre assembld and includes a new filler neck

Ive looked at both the hoses, niether seem to be kinked. I have read about the charcoal canister causes issues... Is there any way to test it, for instance pulling the fuel lines off it at the gas station and seeing if the truck takes gas? I find it odd that one tank wont take gas and then a couple of months later the other one wont take gas either, seems to be something besides the fuel filler necks....

Mine wouldn't take gas unless you barely pulled the trigger on the gas nozzle now it takes the gas as fast as the gas pump can pump it in

That seems to make sense, although it will completely bypass the evaporative emissions system. Its better than dropping the tanks and changing the vents and replacing the vapor canister I suppose lol. I will try it this afternoon and let you know the result.

Well that didnt work. I drilled four 3/16 holes evenly spaced around the back tank filler neck... Still doing the exact same thing.... Any other suggestions?
