a/c "trouble" is it worth it
hey everyone, I want to thank everyone for their responses up front. I have a 1990 f150 I bought used for 700 dollars, roughly used. I have done about 1200 in repairs and a lot of swear and hard work (I work on it outside in south florida) I am done all of the quick, "cheap" repairs and now am looking into moving onto bigger things. The A/C system was completely gutted when I bought it, there is nothing there under the hood. Is it worth it for me to replace the A/C? I know replacement ac's can always cause problems. also can a later model f50 a/c be modified easily to fit mine? thanks again everyone

That is a good write up.
If you lived anywhere but the humidity drenched southeast US, I would tell you the cost is not worth it. You will be dropping around 1000 at least in parts. When I had a failure of my condenser, I just pulled the damn thing, put in a pulley for the belt, and called it a day. In the long run I gained Gas mileage, got a better pickup speed, and when I removed the parts, it allowed for a larger radiator.
But I am in Colorado, with a solid lack of humidity.

I would assume you could pull most of the components from a similar year truck, install, vacuum system and fill.
I don't live in the south but it gets humid AF here in the summer, I also run a lawn care business and if it wasn't for my AC I would probably have a real job working twice as long for 1/3 of what I make now. I'm not really an AC baby (someone who always has the AC on whenever temp is above 70*) but there are times where you just need it. We have 90-99% humidity days at 90+* quite often in the summer and those days it's cranked, but the majority of the time I don't use my AC. I guess what I'm saying is it really depends on your situation and ability to install/vacuum a working system from another vehicle. I wouldn't dump money on a totally new system, unless it was a complete restoration and showroom quality, if I couldn't find a decent used system I would just rely on the 2-65 the factory installed to cool me off.
