Default Busted door handle...again

I have busted off yet another driver’s side door handle on my ‘95 F150. I know this is an issue with this model Ford truck. Has anyone come up with a fix for this problem? An inspection seemed to indicate a stretched latch cable, there also seems to be a lot of flexing in the mount for the door handle mechanism. I have read that replacing these parts with stuff from a 1986 F150 is a fix because this year had a metal door handle. One person replaced his door handle with an inert .50 cal machine gun cartridge, intriguing but he does not describe how he attached it to the door handle mechanism. If anyone has come up with a solution I would love to hear about it.

the oem door handles seem to out last the crappy dorman replacement parts if the plastic is snapping for the latch cable it helps if you lube up the cables ever once and a while to prevent cable stretch.

I broke one off our '95 at work hahaha.

Head down to the ole' pick 'n pull and grab the spring mechanism from behind the door panel, make sure it feels pretty solid before you spend time removing it. That fixed the one on my personal truck, where the door would release after pulling the handle up to the ceiling. now its much better.
yeah dont get a '95 one, go older. the one i broke was metal though...

Interesting the replacement door handle was an after market part from NAPA. I'll go up to the ventor thread and order the factory part. I have read the 1986 door handle which is metal will fit. Can anyone confirm this? This is really something in the family we have trucks that are 70 years old and still have the original door handles, as long as you keep them lub'ed they will last for another 70 years.

Yes, the metal ones do fit. I replaced both in my '92 with metal. Just put a small washer between the bolt head and the handle to keep it from wiggling.

Easy fix when the the metal rips out. Put a large washer under the section of door frame that ripped out and a bolt and nut through the mechanism and tighten it down real snug. I have 2 f-150's and have done all 4 doors with no more problems.
