Brake Light Delay
I've noticed that my brake lights activate significantly later than my pedal starts affecting the stopping. I can stop at a light, and keep the truck stopped with the brake lights off. Seems a little unsafe, as well as when I'm gradually slowing down they flicker on and off as the pedal rides at the light activation threshold. Anyone else dealt with this?

So... It's that switch?
I read somewhere that the brake booster is responsible. I can hold the truck stopped at a light, without the brake lights coming on unless I press harder...

I have this same problem
I have a 91 F150 XLT Lariat 2WD with the same problem. I see it happening on other trucks out on the road sometimes. I want to sell the truck, but I would have to disclose this problem. As far as I'm concerned, the lights should come on if you even rest your foot on the pedal (or OK, maybe a liiiiitle pressure.)
If I stop the truck gently enough, I can do it without activating the brake lights. At the very least, I can do the thing where it will be held at a stop with the lights off, though they may have flickered or been on while stopping.
I wasn't aware of the problem until after I had brake problems and replaced the master cylinder, front calipers, and brake booster.
I think the switch is different on the 04-08's. It is sitting on the pivot point where the brake booster, pedal, and brake switch all meet. It is designed to be pressure sensitive. Other brake switches activate when the pedal leaves the switch. Not this one!!! I've replaced the switch 4 times for the heck of it, with one coming from Ford directly. That made absolutely no difference.
There's also a plastic bushing in there which I got my Ford dealer to order. They said they had only ever sold one of them before. It didn't help.
If I could come up with a way to use a different type of switch, I would...maybe someone has an idea what might work.
There is a right side up and upside down to these switches. It is installed correctly. If you get it backwards, the problem is 4 times worse.
I'm interested in the idea of the brake booster being a culprit because mine was replaced. In any case, there has to be a solution to this. I've seen this on other forums, but never has anyone given a real fix.
