When you get the master Cylinder out look for fluid leaking from the back side. This is what is so bad about bad master cylinders they leak from an area you can't see.

Do you have the proper fitting wrenches? These are a wrench that looks like a box end with part of the "box" cutout. These are the only tool that will properly turn the fittings without the danger of rounding off the corners.

the master cylinder is bypassing internally. Replace the master cylinder and you will be fine.

No I don't have the right tool. I went around to different auto store, none of them had it. I'm heading out to Sears this afternoon to get a set of brake line wrenches. Thanks for your help.

Autozone has the tool, here is a picture of what it looks like. This is something I aways tell people about working on cars and trucks there is a real pleasure working on something with the proper tools,
and it sure makes it a lot easier.

I went to two different Auto Zone store in my area and neither of them had the tool, they were out. One Auto Zone manager didn't even know there was such a tool, and he told me he worked on brakes at Midas for 18 years. So that is why I decided to go to Sears. They had the tool for 17.99 or I could buy the set of five for 33.00. I bought the set, don't know that I'll ever use all the different one's but I'll have if I need them.

You will find many uses for these wrenchs. the Fittings on your power steering pump and steering gear, brake lines, AC fittings, Copper flare fittings.

As for the manager at the Autozone who didn't know what the tool was, to me this is a good reason why he isn't working at Midas anymore. But 18 years !? I would find out which Midas it was and avoid it. If I was a shop manager in such a place I would insist on the proper tools being used of course maybe he was the shop manager. This is one of the reasons why I trust very few machanics.
