both my fuel pumps need replaced. rather than drop both tanks and all that bs, i plan on taking the bed off so ill have both pumps right there. ive heard of quite a few people breaking, or having to cut bolts to get the bed off. can anyone tell me what size nuts and bolts hold the bed on? im probably going to just go ahead and buy new ones, cause by the looks of mine, im gonna have to break em or cut em off. thanks for any help yall can give me.

i had to grind most of mine off too.

Dont know the size but I'm sure you can take the threaded end of the bolt into a hardware store and they can match you up with some grade 8 bolts.

grinding them off was a pita so we mostly ended up welding the tops so we could break the nut loose.

It gave me a chance to wash all that hard to reach mud and undercoat EVERYTHING.

5/6 of mine turned, ended up drilling them out, took for ever. either weld a nut on top of the bolts, or take a grinder to them.

Are those bed bolts a carriage bolt (square shank) or do they just have a round/flat head with round shank? What, if anything, keeps the bolt head from turning when you try to take the nut off? I need to do fuel pump work also and am considering removing the bed vs. dropping the tanks. Thanks.

they are not square shanked carriage bolts, but rather they have a rounded shank about 1.5" deep. The problem is the bolts rust, then when you try to loosen them the bed sheet steel isn't sufficient to hold the bolt head still. In my case, the previous owner had turned 5 of them. The only one not turned was the one tucked up by the front gas tank, which im guessing he was just too lazy to mess with. they have since been replaced with torx bolts on my truck.

The bed bolts on mine are just T50 torx head bolts and thread into captive nuts on the frame. Ijust put a T50 socket on a ratchet with a cheater pipe to break them loose and they came right out. You might want to blast the nuts with penatrating oil the day before

ill try that last idea first. if that dont work ill start breaking ****. lol.
