Default 96 speedometer dead, odometer blank, flashing OD light

My 1996 F-150 speedometer quit working, the LCD odometer is blank, the overdrive lamp flashes and the Check Engine lamp is lit. The truck drives and shifts fine. I checked fuses both under the hood and inside and found none blown. Do you think I should just buy the speed sensor on the differential and install it new? I have not pulled the codes as it happened just today. Thanks for any help!

Just wanted to update my thread so that anyone else who may have this issue will know the fix. I went out after dark and realized I had no interior dome lamp. Found the 15A fuse at the top of the inside fuse panel open. I replaced the fuse and got the dome lamp and the odometer back. I'm sure the speedo will also work when I drive it tomorrow. Take care all.

I've had to replace that fuse three times on my '95. Same exact issues.

Question What about the battery gauge?

My signals were flashing slow, then the lcd odometer started flashing at me, then the speedometer went crazy, and finally they all went out. Haven't tried to restart it yet, but am fearful. If it's this fuse issue you're suggesting, would that also affect the battery gauge (which was very low, then went back up to near full, then crashed)? Or should I be looking at something else?

Thanks.

dougied, don't think you are going to be that lucky. Suggest you start looking at battery connections for corrosion and thightness. If OK, have battery tested then the alternator.

Dougied, My symptoms were only three: No odometer reading, speedometer needle "dead" and no interior dome lamp. I can only assume that the speedo & dome lamp share the same circuit in the fuse panel. I think you may have a different issue, such as a loose or corroded connection as Bill W. suggests. Good luck!

Put in a new battery, and my battery gauge on the dash is reading about 9 or 10 volts. I'm told it should be around 13.4, so it's prolly my alternator. I'll check to see that the belt looks OK before changing it out, but I didn't hear no squealing or nuthin' before it went out, so I'm guessing it's the alt. Dang! Prolly nothing wrong with my old battery, only 3 years old.
