My dad has a 96 f150 5.8 4x4 and we had to replace the rear drums and shoes. I have never heard of having a thicker pad on each side twords the front of the truck. We got both left and Right sides on and noticed that one drum would not fit over the shoes. Only FORD would do this. Also the abs and brake light is on. All brakes are bled I have a Fluid Evacuator to make sure all lines are properly bled. Any help is appreciated. Thanks,

Almost all vehicles have a primary (bigger) and secondary (smaller) shoe. Although I think the larger one goes to the rear. You are getting air in the system. Something is faulty. It doesn't have to leak fluid, it can just leak air in.

I just learned about drum brakes in my high school auto class and I'm pretty sure the primary shoes are the smaller lined shoes that got towards the front of the vehicle and the secondary larger lined shoes go toward the rear of the vehicle. You could possibly have the primary shoes on one side on one side making the one drum fit easily and the secondary shoes on the other side making it hard to install the drum one the other side

I gotta do my rear brakes my driver side drum is falling a part it's missing a good chunk of material

Thanks that's pretty much the only place I can get parts other than bumper to bumper

Thanks guys The thicker pad always goes to the rear of the vehicle. Thats what I thought. The idiot at oreillys didn't know what he was talking about.
