Default 96 f150 o2 sensor question

hi im new to this site and f150's for that matter. i just bought a 96 f150 4x4 v6 for the winter. and my check engine light is on for bank 1 sensor 2. i replaced it and the light is back on 20 miles later. i havent read it up yet to see wut it is but i noticed some1 cut out the catylitic converter and replaced it with a straight pipe. exactly how many o2 sensors is this truck suuposed to have? i noticed 1 in each manifold so i found 2. isnt there supposed to be one also behind the catylitic converter? i looked for the wires where i could hook one in but couldnt find any which lead me to believe there is only the 2 in the manifolds ? thanks for th e help

Welcome to the board.

I think there may have been a sensor after the cat as well.

The 96 F150 is what is called an OBD2 setup which was started in that year. Therefore, the exhaust setups and computers are differently tuned to the according years. I have to ask, did you reset the codes on the ECU after you replaced the O2 sensors? By this I mean unplug your battery for 15-30 minutes to reset everything. After that and you have driven it for a minimum of 15 miles and your CEL still comes on then come back on here and we'll work out the issue.

yes but as of right now im trying to figure out if i got the right exhaust sytem. i called advanced auto and they told me 93 and 96 are the same exhaust when they looked it up so im sure i got it right but when i looked at it the other day i dont see a o2 sensor after the cats. ill have to look again to make sure bu they told me there is supposed to be an o2 sensor after the cats so i wanna make sure other peoples 96 f150 also has 2 cats in the pipes and where there sensors are and how many. thanks

My '95 only has sensors before the 2 cats, like you mentioned above, right when the pipes come together, but before the 1st cat.
