Default 95 transfer case shifter linkage

Hey guys.

On my 95 f150, I had been noticing the 4wd shifter had been getting a bit tough to pull into 4x4. I oiled it up a bit and hoped for the best. A little while later it got easy to shift - too easy! The shifter linkage - the cast aluminum piece with the little rubber boots on it - broke right next to where it attaches to the shift lever.

I checked with the local Ford dealer and a new piece goes for about $300 (ouch!!). This seems a bit much for a truck with 250k on it.

Does anyone know a after market source for this piece, or know where I can find the Ford part number? Or even know of a twin shift setup that will work on a 95? I've been checking scrap yards, but haven't yet had any luck locally.

Thanks for the help!

This is a little closer. You need to know which transfer case you have.

I found a local shop who welded the linkage back together for me. It cost me $30 and has been holding up well since spring.

its funny how dealers try pulling those knd of deals off. I know they are expensive, but 300? are you serious? might as well save up for a new transfercase.

I tried going that route, but the scrap yards I checked with said they don't save the shift linkage when they pull the transfer cases. Go figure...

Any updates on how it's holding up?
Its been about 6 months now and the linkage is holding up great. The guys at the welding shop did a nice job putting it back together.

The only possible down side is that when I disassembled everything for welding, I saw the bushing in the linkage was shot, so I'm using the linkage without a bushing - just packed with grease. Its working well and there doesn't seem to be too much sloppiness in the shifter.

Thanks for the update,I'm in the middle of trying to disassemble it myself and I was wondering if you have any tips on getting it off?
Thanks
