But for now will gear oil hurt the trans? It shifts pretty good now. And please no synthetic suggestions, lol. I used it in my old F150 w\ m5od-r2 and it leaked out of every gasket.

thats what I heard too...
my truck had ATF in it when I got it and it didnt shift right and it felt crunchy shifting or gritty as I should say...
I drained it and filled it with the specified fluid and it seemed worse...so i drained it and added 2 quarts of Lucas red fluid and then tranny fluid...that helped alot...then then I drained a quart and added 80-90 to that and now it shifts great...still wont go into 2nd when cold unless I double clutch

1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th shift fine...just 2nd gives me fits...only when cold...as long as the truck runs for 10 minutes to warm the fluid it shifts like butter...someone gave a link for the shift forks..maybe I should go look for them?
EDIT: the 2nd gear issue is only while moving...sitting still it will shift into 2nd like butter...but moving it wont...I am inclined to think syncro more...the previous owner didnt use the clutch to shift...
