Default 95 f150 broken shifter...

I got an old 95 out in the driveway...still runs good and is still beast in the bush ...The other day I went out to warm it up and when I tried to reverse I heard a noise and now all I get is extra play on the shifter and can't shift into any gear...wondering what it could be and if its something I could just go out and fix myself (a tow from here to the nearest garage is about 160$ so would rather try to fix it first..)...only thing I can say is theres a lot of play..it plays about up to Drive. Any ideas would be great..

I just unhooked the cable from the linkige for now and am able to reach under the dash to shift the gears by the cable...I'm guessing its the tube then... seems loose when I play with the shifter

I'm assuming this is an automatic given the cable type linkage. These can get in the habit of loosening up. Un fortunately, I can't remember where that pesky bolt is that does loosen up but there is definitely one there on the steering column. Sorry I can't give you an exact location.
