Default 95 F150 5.0, 460 or 351 swap?

Alright, so after much consideration and tinkering with the 5.0 in my 95 f150, I've decided it's time to swap for a motor that builds a little more torque. I have 4:10 gears, with longtube headers, and a 3 inch from the Y pipe back, no lift with 32s, getting 10mpg on the highway, with little passing or hill climbing power to make up for it. So I figure if I'm gonna get bad mileage, I would like to have the power to make up for it, I'm wanting to swap motors, and will have a donor truck for either of the two projects, I just need an opinion on which one would give me more bang for my buck? The 460 or the 351? I'm gonna do some mild building on both engines, my truck right now has the S/D setup so MAF sensors aren't an issue with the wiring.. Let's see some opinions, go!

If I remember right, there's a bit of fab work or something that goes into the 460 swap, between mounts and what not. And what I gather of the 351 swap is that you can use mostly everything, like motor mounts, pcm, etc. So easier all around swap.

I have not done either, so don't quote me on this lol

I'm not concerned with the difficulty of the project, I just want something that's gonna give me the most power for around the same amount of money. There are a few more things involved with the 460 swap, but not enough to talk me out of it if the 460 will give me a considerable power difference

The 460 will be a considerable power/torque difference. But nothing you have now will bolt up so it will be nowhere near the same amount of money.
If you were going to go to the big block an older 429 will walk all over a 460 IMO.
A built up 351 will give you a very noticeable neck snap - as in "what the hell you got in this thing ?" if that's what you're looking for.

That's about what I'm looking for, I would go 429 but I'm wanting to stay fuel injected. I don't really wanna turn it into a racer, but I definitely wanna put a bigger smile on my face when I dump the pedal.

The 351 is almost a direct swap.

All the wiring from your original motor will work just fine.

The motor mounts are the same.

The 5.0 computer will run the 5.8L lean on fuel but it will run it. That is if it is Speed Density.

The flex-plate and also the harmonic damper need to be 28oz imbalance for the 5.8L instead of 50 oz imbalance like the 5.0 if you have Automatic transmission. Also, if it is E4OD it has be a E4od or C6 28 OZ imbalance flexplate.

The 351 with the right modifications will be more power then you need. Change the intake Manifold, Full exhaust, and swap the heads. If you continue on you will need to swap to bigger injectors. That means swapping the computer to a 460 computer designed for 24lb injectors or doing a mass air conversion with the right mass air flow sensor calibrations.

I'm no expert. This all that I have read in preparation of the 5.8L swap that I am currently undertaking. If something is wrong or you find out differently please correct my mistakes so others will know for their education.

Also, I'll still be driving the truck quite frequently, so I would rather not have a massive build on the motor which would limit the mileage I could put on it, if you know what I mean. I'm basically wanting the most power for the cheapest, parts wise.

5.0 is the way to go for what you're describing. Don't know if you've seen my engine build thread, but that would be a good starting point if you haven't already seen it.

460 is f****** horrible with horsepower and will drink gas. I'd go with with the 351. But hey I don't see what's wrong with the 5.0 myself.

Can the 5.0 be built up to pull alright? The truck has trouble getting up hills as it is without a trailer on it. What can I do to build this up so it's comparable in torque and pulling power to say a 351?
