I have a 95 5.0 auto w/od 2wd. It had/has the same issue, what I did that was cheap and quick: IAC,TPS, fuel & air filter, TSS and had the MAFS checked. Dude, big time improvements in responsiveness and power. Each piece under $50 and 5-20 minute changeouts! Try those

Well just like he said. Will get a lot of that back. Also. Your cats could be clogged too unless you have them gutted.

I did sea foam as well, it helped. Also if its really sludged do NOT have it cleaned professionally at these high mile old trucks it will hurt it but I did however have my upper intake cleaned completely and put entire can of sea foam in oil then let it idle for maybe 5 minutes then changed oil immediately, that won't clean it out all the way which you don't want but it gets enough out to help power and leaves enough in to not harm it.
