I seek the wisdom of the Ford gods. I dont have a lot of info about the truck but will try to be as thorough as i can.
When you start it from a cold start it runs fine. Choke kicks on then after a few and it idles like it should. (no tach but i would say its around 800 rpm). You can hit the gas a couple times... runs great. Once it hit operating temp after a few minutes of running, the idle jumps to about 1500 to 2000 rpm out of nowhere. Hit the throttle and it wont drop the idle. I turned the truck off and when i try to restart it, it wont hold and idle for a minute. It starts again but you have to keep your foot on the gas to keep it running and after a few it holds an idle, then back up to 1500 to 2000 rpm again.
I have checked for vacuum leaks the best i could and changed a couple "questionable" hoses and no change. I have searched the symptoms and keep hearing TP sensor and also Air intake valve. The check engine light is on but i cant seem to find the data link under the dash. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

There is no data link under the dash. The connector for an OBDI scanner is on the drivers side firewall/wheel well area. If you search the net, you will find a way to do a self scan with a length of wire from the negative battery terminal to the plug itself. Then all you do is count CEL blinks. Might just be easier to go to O'Reilly's and have them scan it.

Actually it's as simple and bending a paper clip to hit 2 connectors on the OBDI port. No need for wire. There's a sticky on the top of this forum about how to DIY.

Around here, O'reillys, autozone/etc can't read an OBDI system

DONT screw with the obd scensor, Idle air control valve on the throttle body. changed that and it should kick down

See, they told me they couldn't read my 92 either, until I showed them the connector in their box.

is it throwing a code? is the check engine light coming on?

He said in his first post that the CEL was on. Also, as we all know, these trucks will store codes without throwing a CEL.

idle air control valve, had the same problem, replaced that and mass air flow scensor and ran MINT!!! never had any other problems on my 94'

Hey, yeah i noticed the sticky and that really helped me get the codes. It is throwing
23 (TP out of test range)
53 (TP above max volt)
So now that i have the codes... ha ha. Any advice from there? Off the top of my head that tells me throttle position sensor. But up came the idle air control valve again. Could it be the idle air is making the TP throw a code? (sorry, not real clear on how it all ties together.)
