Default 93' F150 4WD just went out.

So i have a 93' F150 pickup with automatic locking hubs and my 4WD sudden stopped functioning. I live in Alaska so it really sucks to be driving in 2WD. It was working fine one day, then on my way home i felt a series of bumps from under my left foot then they stopped, at the stoplight i noticed my rear tires spinning out on the ice which ment the 4WD was out, strange. I hit the 4WD button off, then back on again.. still in 2WD. Not sure what the problem could be, any ideas on a fix? I am some what mechanical as long as i have a chiltons in front of me, so if anyone knows of some usual things that fix it im all ears.

i crawled up underneath while the truck was in park, and noticed that the front drive train is spinning freely. its all completly stock, except for the new rotors and brake pads I installed several months ago, and a new set of shocks all around bout 3 months ago. Although there had been a slight but continous squeek coming from the front tires while rolling, could these indicate something? The truck only has about 105k miles on it, so its not that old and ive kept the gear fluid topped off. Id really it to be some small replacement part in the transfer case instead of having to buy a whole new one.

Any help is much appreciated.

what part of Alaska? I live in wasilla. is the transfercase auto or manual? either way, did you have it selected to where 4x4 is suposed to be engaged and it spun freely?

I would assume that it is a electronic shift since you said you hit the button could just be the shift motor.

i live in anchorage, im assuming its a manual transfercase, since there is no auto 4X4, only a button for 4x4, and then off is 2wheel drive. and yes when the 4x4 is engaged the front tires are spinning freely. I just havent had a chance to take it down to midas to get a mechanics opinion on whats wrong... either way, they are prob going to tell me it needs to be replaced or something.

Probably broke the transfer case chain.
