91 f150 5.8L auto trans problem
i have a 1991 f150 4x4 automatic with e40d transmission. it shifts kind of hard going into 2nd gear, but fine the rest. it is a newer transmission, truck has71,500 miles trans had about 20,000. any ideas? thank you

Could be a bad accumulator spring. The AOD-E/4r70W's are bad for the spring wearing or breaking. When tranny sends fluid into that accumulator, the spring softens the shift, but instead, with bad/broke spring it kinda slams in gear like a shift kit. My truck does it also.Friend of mine truck did same thing, and sure enough spring was broke when I rebuilt tranny for class project.(Tech School) Actually, I know this may sound crazy, but its better for the tranny. Instead of the clutches sliding into gear(slippign little), they instantly grab and son slide(slip) into gear.. Kinda like what a shift kit does..

my mount does in fact have play in it but i didn't really think that could cause it. i guess i will have to look at that, b.c the trans has about 20,000 miles on it, i did the best u joints on the market my vacuum lines are all routed correctly, so i will check on a new mount. thank you very much
