Default e4od to aod swap

Looks like the e4od in my 95 5.8l 4x4 is gone. Started pissing fluid from the inspection cover, and revving high about 4-500rpm more in O.D. Thinking about going to an aod, really don't need the big heavy e4od. Anyone ever done this swap? Any ideas if it'll work? Thanks

I did it in my 96. It'll work but it'll take some work to do it

Ok, so what did you do about the ecm? I figure prob have to do new d/shafts and cross member, but I'm more interested in the electronics part. Were you able to just set the t.v cable on the aod and go? did you notice any advantages to the swap?

you're right about the crossmember and drive shafts. As for the ECU it'll still be trying to control even though it's not there. You really won't notice it at all but since when I did mine I also did a motor swap and build I had a tuner burn a chip for me and in all the burns he disabled the tranny controls in it
