Default '89 F150 Custom, 302: Simple air flow mod?

I'm looking to make a fairly simple/cheap air intake mod. Any ideas/pointers appreciated. Thanks.

Have used an air intake from 4.9 gets better flow as it comes through grille and radiator support in about a 3" x 5" rectangle. Hard to describe but it is more direct for flow to air filter housing.

Thanks for the help. I'm learning a lot about the different methods of modding the air intake. And the forced cold air versus unforced warm air debate. I'm not looking to go too off the wall. Maybe finding a replacement filter made of foam that will work in the standard filter box, and also a less restrictive muffler? Just to get a few more mpg's.
