Default 89 5 speed Transmission

yea i'm having issues with my 5 speed manual on my 89. i can't get it into first. well i can but i have to force it, and i mean force it. 5th is difficult as well. the other gears are descent but not right. Like third has to be wriggled in to place. i'm wondering if i have to get my tranny rebuilt or what just bought the truck a while back and am looking at fixing it up.

If reverse is screwed up as well then your trannys done bud. otherwise could be fluid need to be checked or something in the top end of the tranny (which is beyond my know how)

No reverse is okay. i just changed transmission fluid prolly 500 miles ago. sometimes it grinds in third if i don't wriggle the right way thats the best i can describe it. I'm not a transmission guy not much experience but i'm thinkin i need my transmission rebuilt, i might be wrong. Does anyone know what that will run me to have it rebuilt?

Clutches suck and its always best to have an experienced guy do it for you. However...you CAN do it on your own with a few decent tools, a lot of band-aids and a manual. Read the manual a bunch of times, look at lots of parts break downs and make yourself a step by step sheet, and you should be fine. I would imagine that once you've done it, you'll kick yourself for not doing it earlier.
