Driver bucket seat repair ideas
Hey y'all, about three years ago I picked up a 1990 XLT extended cab. The interior is pretty mint given the age, but there was a tear in the driver's seat caused by one of the rods in the seat cracking in half and stabbing through the material.
For the first year or so I owned the truck, I wrapped the ends of the rod in duct tape, but like so many duct tape repairs this was only a temporary fix.
I'm thinking that if I patch the area, the broken rod is just eventually going to stab through the patch. I need to figure out how it is to repair that rod. Does anyone know of a metal sleeve maybe that would go over the rod to avoid disassembling the seat?
I have no access to a welder or someone with a welder to tack the rod back together. I'm not confident that I can figure out how to replace the whole rod either but if someone has a video of the process I would be interested in seeing this.
The rest of the seat is practically perfect, and replacements that I've seen on ebay (aside from being difficult to find in the first place) are not in as good of shape as my seat is except for this one flaw.
