87 F150 -- Just Bought - Fuel Guage Problem
Hey Guys,
Newbie here, bought a 87 F150 4X4 to leave at the lake to load and unload my boat. The truck has two gas tanks, the guy I bought it from said the tanks either read completely full or empty no in between. I would really like to have an accurate reading, any ideas on what is wrong here?
Also, my Drive gear indicater on the drive column is gone or doesn't work, does not show what gear you are in, not really a big deal but would like to fix it as well?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
PS: have ordered a Chilton repair manual which should help

Well since its both tanks I would look at the fuel gauge. On the shift indicator issue, there is a cable that kinda wraps around the steering column and clips on the bottom. Its prolly loose or broken.

those same problems were wrong with my 89 for the gas gauge i havent fixed that yet but the shift indicator i kinda ghetto rigged with a twist tie off of a bread bag. it may sound a little wierd but it does the job. at least i dont have to count clicks anymore.
