Default 87 f150 4.9l dies

hello. i have an 87 f150 2wheel drive 4 speed truck . it has the 4.9l engine with EFI.I have new wires ,plugs, cap ,rotor and distributor .n the truck. also have new air filter and a full tank of gas. the truck started and ran good for about 10 minutes then just died while going down the highway. after pulling to the side the truck started again after a few minutes then quit about three miles down the rode . after another 15 minutes the truck started but would only idle. giveing throttles caused the engine to die. hopefully you guys can give me some clue. autozone is a long way from where i am. i probably need to get my own code reader. thanks for replies.

when engine is cold the truck runs like a new one. it came up to operating temprature and died again. i checked #1 plug wire for spark after truck died. well there was no spark. i figured coil was bad. went to town got a coil put it on the truck. truck fired right up and ran like a new one until it got up to operating temprature and died again. new wire set,plugs,rotor,distributor/ignition module, cap and coil. this is beyond funny.

Autozone won't be able to help read your codes, they can only read the 96 and newer vehicles with the OBD-II reader. Your truck would be the OBD-I code reader. See if you can find a shop near you that could run the codes for you. There may be something usefull in the error codes that could shorten your search for the problem you are having.

Default truck dies

It was the fuel relay under a plastic cover beside the air intake filter box on the driver side fender. the check engine light never did come on. every symptom indicated ignition trouble. took it to 2 mechanics both of them told me i needed a new power control module. i decided to change all the sensors and work thru the relays before a new pcm. anyhow thats it.
