87 f-150 stalling and no fuel pumps
My 87 has been giving me troubles lately, and I wanna get it up and going before winter again. It use to run fine, then all of a sudden quit. It would get fuel (fuel pumps prime) but no spark. We replaced the distributor and the pickup coil. (not sure if the ICM was replaced though) it ran fine for awhile but now it dies again randomly. Now when it dies, it is not getting fuel to the rail and the fuel pumps do not prime. idk what to do its driving me crazy. Oh the fuel pump relay is new also. Where should I start looking?
Also, I replaced the starter and it seems to have a short in it. By this I mean Sometimes the truck will crank right over, but sometimes now you turn the key and all power is lost and it will not spin. The battery and battery connections are good.

Check all of your fuses, ensure the connectors at the pump have clean terminals, check the ground for the pump for good clean connection. Start with the basics, rule out fuses, connectors, and grounds. This is where most problems originate from. Once you do that you can move to components, use a voltmeter to test them for proper voltage. Random dying (if not a fuel issue) could be the ignition coil or PIP sensor, you said you replaced Pickup coil, not sure if you meant pickup sensor (pip) or the ignition coil, both will cause random stalls when they are going bad. If it is fuel related could be connectors, bad ground, loose fuse/corroded connection.

There should be a ground to the body located close to the pumps, just follow the wires and you will find it, I think there is only one body ground on that side of the truck.

At the top of this section is a post by sean on reading OBD1 codes. In there you will see how you can force the pumps with a jumper. That should tell you if they are working. If so you will probably be looking at a connection (possibly on the bottom side of the relay box)
