There is one thing I like about these long wheel base trucks, that is directional stability on the highway. Here in Cheyenne, Wyoming we deal with high winds. honestly we really don't take notice of wind until it tops 50 mph. Winds topping 100 mph are not uncommon we have long since learned to deal with such wind storms. A long wheel base truck with a load in the box is great to have in such conditions. With ground effects bolted on to keep the wind out from under the truck it almost like you are on rails in such conditions. It blizzard conditions a long wheel base 4X4 is what will get you into town and back. A short wheel base is great to have for maneuverability but on slick icy snowy roads they are very unstable and can swap ends in a instant, or worse rolled. A long wheel base is much safer. To me a great all purpose family hauler is a 4 door long wheel base pickup truck.

I love my 8 ft'er. Fits 8 ft. sheets of plywood, dry wall & especially my Harley w/ the tailgate closed.

I can't carry anything longer than 10' in my 8' bed, it hits the trailer. That's why I have the racks, I'm the only guy that can pick up the 20' stock at the aluminum supplier and all while still pulling the trailer.
