Default 5spd Transmission leak?

I have a 2wd 94 F150 4.9L with a 5spd tranny... for awhile now ive found dampness on the transmission near the back end but I did a more in depth look and I seems to be coming from the top of the transmission? so ive kept an eye on it and im sick of seeing it ... has anyone had this problem and if so what did you do to fix it? is it a seal where the shifter goes into the transmission or what? ill take some pics of the leak tomorrow in daylight... thanks guys

Could be the shifter, could be the shift rail plugs.

It could be the top cover, but I highly doubt that. Pretty sure AutoZone doesn't have the shifter bushings, they might have the 5/8" brass plugs for the rail plugs. The factory used rubber ones that you could try RTVing in.

There are several small rubber plugs in the very top of that tranny that, over time harden and shrink. You should be able to access these through the floor at the shifter. Replace them or silicone them in place and your leak is cured.

Yes it is aggravating when the part store is just as clueless as the ones coming in as to what they need...lol
