4x4 won't engage
I have a '96 autolocker. When I'm in 4 hi or low the front drive shaft turns but the front axle stays still ( I picked up the truck with a couple of forklifts to check it out. ) Any suggestions why momentum is not carrying through the front diff to the wheels?

Is it that the front axles are not turning or is it the front tires are not? The front axles not turning is a indication of a bad differential, which is not very common. The front tires not turning is bad hubs, very common with the auto locking hubs.

It's the wheels not turning. The axles spin and there is a distinct clicking from behind the front left wheel. Anyone have a range of price to fix this, either DIY or professional?

I'm with mije.. swap to manual hubs. Warn or Superwinch. I have Superwinch.
It's been sometime, but I believe that I paid like 80 bucks for them. I installed them myself so I wouldn't have a clue on someone doing that for you. One of the benefits with the manual hubs... You can use the low gear of the transfer case without being in four wheel drive.
