Default 4r70w to e4od?

Hi guys,
I have a 96 4x4 f150 with a 302 and 4r70w tranny. Today my transmission gave up and now i need a new one. I want to switch to the e4od because its heavier duty than the 4r70w but I'm not sure if it will be a plug-and-play type of swap.

does anyone know of any issues or special considerations i should make before i order a rebuilt e4od on the internet?

any help would be much appreciated!

You'll need a 96 trans, a different PCM and probably a different trans wiring harness. Not sure about overall length, but I think the E4OD may be longer which could affect driveshaft lengths and trans mount crossmember.
So not really plug and play, no.
