4.9L Manual to 5.8W swap questions
Hello everyone,
I'm trying to find out if I'm missing anything on a swap I'm trying to do. I currently have a 1993 4.9L manual with 330K miles on it and just received a 5.8w out of a 1994 that had an automatic (didn't get the auto). I also received the ECU, wire harness, radiator, and engine mounts. I also know that I need the flywheel for the 5.8L.I'm keeping the manual and planning on switching over to a ZF-5 manual when I find one. I received this truck from my dad a few years ago and went through it replacing everything on it till it runs brand new again. Last thing is just the engine. The one I have runs well enough just a little wore out. Truck holds a lot of sentimental value for me but isn't my daily driver.
My question is am I missing anything wiring related because of the previous auto transmission?. Does anybody have a detailed wiring diagram of the wiring harness/ECU?

Yeah I forgot that the 5.8's didn't switch over until 95. My 94 f150 is MAF but it came with the 5.0. When I did my 302 to 351w swas I got the 351w out of a 95 bronco.
Anyway, I would try to get the parts you need to do the MAF conversion at the same time as the engine swap if you can. It makes it easier when it comes to getting it running right.

Okay . So need to find MAF conversion pieces and a ZF-5 transmission.
As far as the ECU and wiring harness does anybody foresee a problem with wiring seeing how the ECU was originally setup for an automatic?

Yes. The ECU will be searching for shift points.
You said you got engine mounts - the rubber ones that bolt to the motor // or did you get the steel frame perches that the engine mounts bolt to ? Because you will need those; the 4.9 ones are completely different and in a different place.
I'll see if I can find a picture that shows the frame perches.
You can see them attached to the back of the engine crossmember. 302 and 351 are the same.<br/>4.9 ones sit on top of the c/member.

Uhm... No out looks like I didn't get those. I got the engine mounts but not the perches. Thank you for that. Is there another way around the ecu transmission problem or do I have to find an ECU for a manual?

I'm doing a similar swap; my truck is a '94 300 six with a 5 speed gearbox. I've found a donor truck, a '95 F-250 SuperCab with a 351 and a 5 speed(w/ a granny 1st gear) for $500.00
Hopefully the ECU won't make a distinction between my Mazda 5 speed gearbox and the 5 speed with creeper gear....
ECU has to match the motor and transmission.
