4.9L/300ci Thermostat question.
If this has been discussed here already I apologize. I did a few searches and came up with nothing...
I need to know what temperature I need to get for the thermostat. Everywhere I have looked they have a list between 160 degrees up to 205 degrees. What is the factory, or best one to go with for the truck?
Just doing some routine maint on the old gal. This is on a 1992 F-150 2wd 4.9/300 with a little over 298,000 miles.

run what you need...the warmer teh climate the cooler I go...the colder teh climate the warmer it should be...
personally I run a 160 stat in ALL my vehicles and have even the newest 2007 van I had
I run a 160 in my 300-6 currently even in winter and heat isnt an issue even in Indiana winters...
people will tell you it wont go into loop mode less than 185 degrees but thats BS...it will still go in loop mode at 140 degrees...
mine does just fine and I havent tweaked the ECM in one bit....

ymeski, I take it that this is a subject of some controversy? I'm just looking for the factory specs on the thermostat. I could really care less about anyone's opinion on what should be used.
peacekeeper is just a handle I've had online for some years. Not code for anything, but I am a Marine so I don't mind a bit of action every now and then.

I appreciate the quick response folks. I have to say that this seems to be the first vehicle forum I have been on where anyone seems to know anything about their vehicle. Everywhere I go people seem more worried about the way their hooptie looks than how it functions.
Once I get all of this regular maint. done on her, I need to start checking out the heater. I don't think it has ever really worked that great since 92, but it has been surprisingly cold this winter for Texas.

Cool deal. Thanks for the info. I've been planning to do just that with the ignition system, just didn't really know if it would be worth it on this engine.
But Christ almighty is there some magical way to burp the damn system? I've been having it out with the air in the system, and I be damned if I'm not getting my butt kicked. I know there is some witch doctor crap you can do to Jeeps to get them good to go. Is there some secret with the 4.9?
