Default 302 wont start...

i have a 95 F150 4x4 with a 302 engine and 290,XXX miles on it. it quit on me today but i highly doubt the mileage is much of a factor. i buried the front end in a deep mudhole, got out, then it stuttered and quit on my way home. at first, i thought it was the airfilter being wet (k&n) but it was not. i checked for spark and bingo, no spark.

the truck has accel electronic ignition and coil, and the distributor cap and rotor are fairly new (it was wet inside when i checked, but is dry now). im currently letting it sit overnight to see if it just needs to dry out.

aside from crossing my fingers in the morning, any suggestions for fixing this problem?

I did the same thing to my 88 5.0 last summer, good mud hole, turned out that the coil cracked. The spark was coming out the top of the coil to the nearest ground, which at 1 point was my hand! After it dried out good I got it home, but anytime and I do mean anytime there was moisture in the air it wouldn't want to start, sometimes it would after I turned it over for a few minutes. I ended up buying a MSD Blaster coil for about $55 and been doin fine since!

Welcome to the site,it might be alright after it dries out,if not the coil might be your problem as drakebuster said,my truck would start hard or not at all when wet out.

thank you guys for the welcome.

update on my problem, its definately not getting spark. i took off the ignition module and opened it up. it is all epoxy inside protecting most of it but i did dump some water out of it. guess this might be the problem but i cant test it for sure without swapping it out with another. guess i gotta bite the bullt and buy another one...

Is there not a way to check it with a volt meter? I don't have my Haynes book here but I thought you could test them.

Most Advance, Oreillys and Autozones have a tester for the ignition module.

I'm not sure, but i think you have to use a ignition module tester,we use one at the shop and it will test the module & the coil.

i took it to autozone but they only can test stock ignition modules. this is an accel 300+ ignition system. i tested the coil, its fine. dizzy im hoping is fine. i think the module got wet and shorted out.
