Chelios nailed that one.

I ended up buying a Haynes Manual (which I was a little disappointed in - This forum has been more help..)
and took the whole throttle body off.
It was quite the puzzle. One step at a time.

Once inside, you should have seen the GUNK!
Oh it was terrible. I used 2 cans of carb cleaner and got it cleaned up nice.
I also cleaned the EGR while I had it apart with carb cleaner.
I replaced the EGR and TB gaskets as well as the TPS.

It runs like it's supposed to! Wow.
Night and day. Solid idle. Good acceleration. Strong instead of weak feeling.
After test driving, I checked error codes: 1 - 1

It took me 5 hours because this was as deep as I have been yet.
There were moments I wished I hadn't even started.
And I dropped a screw TWICE and had to retrieve it the hard way.

But i learned a heck of a lot about this engine.
It takes a lot of the mystery out of it now.
And most of all there is a sense of accomplishment when you turn the key and everything is right.
I have a feeling I saved a chunk of change, too.

In closing, the guy at Advance told me that when they sit for a long period, the brushes in the TPS tend to go bad. This truck had sat before I got it, so there is the reason.

A big thanks to everyone that helped me out.

One last question...
After seeing how bad the intake was, I want to Seafoam it again to get in there deep where I could not reach. But I just did it a few days ago.
Do you see any harm doing it again this soon?
OK, but after that, wait till just before you next oil change to do it again!
Check out "Using Seafoam spray to clean a sealed intake unit".

it was the codes that told me that, any tps readings that are off the normal voltage indicates a bad unit. but thank you, i do what i can

ymeski56: looking at the diagram, it appears that the idea is to slip the tube between the hose and the lip of the intake. But I don't get the"hook".
It looks like something the red straw slides into?
Is that something that comes with the spray version of Seafoam? I have only bought the liquid version...

Also, I assume you would want to do this with both intakes?

Thanks-

It's their new version. I'm still waiting to see it on the shelves. Yep, both tubes, you should be able to improvise something if you can't find it, The air flow will disperse it once you get it in there.

Picked up a can yesterday and rubber banded around it was the nifty new straw tool...
Wasn''t on the shelf at OReillys but I asked and he had it in the back.
I plan to do my chainsaw and lawnmower with what's left over!

Thanks again-

So this spray stuff would be blown into the throttle body? I only have like 5000 miles on my engine but I didn't clean out the intake manifolds. Being able to spray directly into the throttle body would help.

There's a protective glaze that needs to build up on the cylinder walls that seals the rings. I don't think I'd introduce them to Seafoam w/ just 5k on them. Removal of the intake for cleaning would be the best bet.
