I have a 89 F150 5.0 EFI 5 spd 2wd. I bought rusted out 84 F150 5.0 5 speed 4wd with a carb with low miles.

How difficult is the swap going to be to drop the 84 engine in the 89. The 89 engine has a lot of new parts but over 200k with a death knock.

I have some help am no expert by a long shot but I need to do this since I don't have a lot of cash or the heart to part with this truck.

Exactly the same engine. Should be an easy swap, just use the efi lower\upper to keep the fuel injection. There is NO difference between a 2wd and 4wd engine. Just use the flywheel that came with the engine you are using. The most u will probably spend is for the gaskets and antifreeze. Oh and if you live within central jersey I am interested in a 5 speed.

if it wear me i would just take the time and rebuild the engine no sence in putting an older engine back in when you just had this one go yeah prob be a little more expensive but at least you could just drop the pan undo the piston rod caps and then drop the crank of course you have to pull the timing cover off and undo the chain then drop new bearings in and replace the seals toatal prob 100 but that would be me if your just looking to get a little more use out of it i saw just switch em and be done with it
