Default 1996 F150 MAJOR SUSPENSION AND BREAK WORK .. what to expect

1996 f150 RWD Short bed/ /Short Cab straight 6.

I'm looking to do this:

UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS IN FRONT
ALL FOUR SHOCKS
FRONT CALIPERS
BRAKES
BRAKE LINES
GRIND DOWN PLATES
Front BEARINGS

At what miles would you expect an 96 F150 to need all this work?

What can I pay at a Tire Kingdom or Pep boys for this type of work.

If I decide to take this on myself. What can I expect to spend in parts and hours?

Know anybody in South Florida who will do a good job at good price?

Thanks.

When i did the brakes on my 89 it took about 4 hours..granted it was 10 degrees out. That was all new front brakes, and one new brake line for me.
(it was about ~250-300$ on parts but I put new calipers, rotors, soft lines, best brake pads, and wheel bearings on both sides.)

It prob shouldn't take you too long to do the brakes, just took me longer b/c of the weather and not being able to feel my fingers.

I'm sure the other guys will chime in about the rest.

i did all of the above if its four wheel drive i would change the u joints in the two front axles it took me a week end but i didnt rush prob. could of done it in a day its not really that hard just male sure you have the right tools your going to need a axle nut socket a three jaw puller a ball joint spliter and a good ball joint press the hardest part for me was getting the the lower ball joint to pop off of the i beem so the spindle would come loose but other than that it was a easy job as far as how much it would cost at a shop the front end shop by me told me 400 just to change the ball joints so just think how much it would cost for all of that work i paid about 800 for the parts and i bought the best parts avail. most of it came from rock auto

I took the truck to pep boys and Tiger Kingdom.. just for estimates. I got different information and prices.

Both said I needed new rotors cause they are warped, Brakes and Calipers redone.

Pep boys said I need to replace upper and lower ball joints in the front. Tire Kingdom said ball joint are fine, but that I needed a new gearbox.

Just noticed the steering does dance around a little while I drive. How do I know If I need a new gear box? or Ball joints?

You redid your calipers too? I might need to do that as well.

What shocks did you use?

I did front brakes (rotors/pads/lines and shocks in 1 hour with a floor jack..cleaned and repacked Bearings and put on new Grease cups...took 1 hour. Newer models are easier....I Hear!. Tie rod ends arent a biggy either..Just do an alignment after your done to be safe..

Not sure why PepBoys is saying I need to rebuild calipers, brake lines and all four ball joints. Tire Kingdom is saying I need a new Steering Gear box.

Would you recommend this ebay product for brakes and rotors? Only $90 for Rotors and Pads. I know it's cheap, but is it unsafe?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-95...item230528908b

Also, when a website lists the core price for the Core is the presumption that you will need to return the core?

For example, this steering Gear Box:

Thanks.
