Default Oil pan gasket change

Getting ready to put on a new felpro oil gasket and realized I don't know how tight to re-tighten the bolts. Haven't gotten around to purchasing a Haynes or chilton, as I've only had the truck for a week. Here's to hoping someone is online, that knows, and I can get this finished up tonight! Thanks in advance

Just got my Haynes today...

I6 or V8?

And if it's a V8, which one?

I just got my 94 5.0 a few months back and found what looked like a fairly new rubber oil pan gasket sticking out and leaking. I had a time getting to the oil pan bolts above the cross member, so I grabbed an allen wrench type 1/4" socket driver that I had and went to work. It was the only way I had at the time to get in to that tight spot. I loosened the pan bolts, put the gasket back into place and tightened it back up. Haven't leaked a drop since. I read someone's comment on here a little while back "always re-torque the gaskets before tearing into a huge job". Great advise and I'm really glad I tried that before dismantling the oil pan.

I bought the truck last week and went on a road trip to Baltimore. On the way back I checked oil and it was a little low. I noticed that oil was dripping from the entire undercarriage. I also saw that the gasket was sticking out a good half inch on the one side. When I got the old one off today, it was torn in a few spots. The new felpro gasket had metal grommets in the bolt holes which I was impressed by. I also got a decent look inside the engine with the pan off. I am glad that I replaced, even if just for self gratification. Unfortunately it got dark before I could finished. All the bolts are started, just need to find torque specs to finish it up tomorrow.

Here's the sequence:

F
R 11-7-3-2-6-10-14
O
N 13-9-5-1-4-8-12
T

Hope this helps...good luck.

Well it took me the rest of this morning, but I got it in. And knock on wood, no leaks. Hardest part was ensuring the gasket was lined up where the pan meets the transmission. Tight fit in there. Have a 70 mile trip this afternoon, should be a good test!

I ended up buying a Haynes manual. Well spent $$ I know. Torque requirements was around d 15 - 18 ft/lb just for future reference

Did you have a hard time dealing with it being 4x4?

It definitely was tight on the four bolts in the back. Only had a 3" extension on the socket, I ink a 6" would have got you out of harms way.

Did you have to pull the oil pump or did you just lower the pan enough to put in the new gasket? Was you able to completly pull the pan or just lower it some to put new gasket in?
