Default parts truck broken starter

so i was checking out my parts truck today. if i want to get it running i need to put a starter in it. But the problem is that when the guy i bought it from went to change the starter he broke one of the bolts. So how do you get this broken bolt off. anyone had this happen to them before?

Is it broken inside the bell housing? Got anything left to grab onto?

Otherwise you will have to drill and re-tap, or soak it and an easy out.

I'm not sure it there was any left sticking out or not. I'd have to check. All I know at the minute is that its going to he a real pain in my ***! Especially because the front coil buckets are rusted out so its hard to get under the thing without a floor jack

Hey guys I looked today at the starter bolt and there is very little bolt left sticking out, like 1/32-1/16th of an inch left. So not enough to grab with vice grips and be able to turn

If you have access to a welder you could try welding a nut on the end to get it out

at the moment i dont have access to a welder, even tho i have see that done before where they weld on a washer and then a nut on. but even tho this things is a 4x4, it sits really low to the ground, because the front coil bucket is broken so its a PITA to get under.

If i cant get the bolt out with an easy out idk what ill do, probably drop the tranny.

I'm no expert but I was thinking,...maybe drill a small hole in the center of the bolt,..then use a lot of liquid wrench or wd40 or something like that around the area where the threads meet the casing and then use a bolt extraction bit. like the ones in the picture I posted here. You might want to heat up the area around the bolt with a small hand torch before you try to extract it with the bit. This has worked for me before but I'm not sure how much room you will have to work with....

I will be watching your thread closely as I also have a 1996 F150 that I am trying to rebuild/restore as well. I'd be happy to help with anything I have learned while working on mine. Although,...as far as the engine goes mine is a 4.9L Inline 6 cylinder

BTW,..I have an extra service manual for the 1996 F Series trucks I'm trying to sell. So, if you need one let me know. It's the factory blue manual that the ford service techs use and is around 3" thick.

Yea my plan is to try an easy out, I just got a key made for the white truck today. Because the one I had was actually 2 haha, one half was broke in the ignition. How much is an easy out kit cost these days anyway I haven't looked them up. ANd night owl ill let ill let you know about that manual, moneies a little tight at the moment, mostly because I'm seeing Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia line tonight
