1996 F150 302 Belt Squealing
I just got this truck a few weeks ago and it had a little cherp coming from the serpentine belt. I assumed it wouldn't be a big deal and I could just spray some belt dressing on it and the problem would be solved, but when I did the cherp got even louder and is now at the point where it is a prolonged squeal. I thought at the time the belt dressing fixed the problem because at idle it is quiet, but as soon as I hit the gas it starts squealing. The belt looks fairly new. Anyone know a solution?

Sounds like low tension, change out the tensioner and belt. Problem should be gone. Check all pulley bearings and fan clutch for wear while you are at it, most of that stuff is cheap and easy to change and it saves you the pain in the *** of being stuck on the side of the road with a shredded belt. Also, make sure all the accessories are spinning freely, if one is starting to lock up the belt will squeal over it, but like I said it's probably just low tension.

There should be an indicator on the tensioner to let you know if the belt is stretched out (atleast my 351 has one) there are range marks on the fixed portion and a pointer on the moving arm, if the pointer is not centered between the marks you have a stretched belt.

Funny cause mine started doing this after i changed the shredded belt then i changed the idler and tensioner idler and alternator. It went away then came back as a little chirp. Im blaming it on the Dayco belt.

okay so I changed the belt and cleaned off all of the rollers and pulleys with break cleaner and a wire brush and it stopped for a few days and now it has a little bit of a chirp that seems to go away after it warms up. It doesn't always make noise though just randomly, but when it does it seems to go away after the engine is warm.

Check the fan clutch, mine did that, when it gets warm it tightens up and noise goes away. You can remove the fan and drive it around to verify, just keep an eye on the temp if your area is warm. Unbolt it from the water pump, remove it and put the bolts back in to hold the pulley on the water pump.
