Default 1996 302 Exhaust Question

Hello,

I have a 1996 F150 2wd with a 302. I am looking to put some dual exhaust with headders x pipe (minus cat. converter). I did some research and i believe to have found the answer the post cat. converter O2 sensor, however there is a line that runs back to the engine from the exhaust, believe it is part of the A.I.R. system. Any suggestions when dealing with this?

thanks

you'll need collectors with the O2 bung...

you can either add the AIR bung or delete the AIR system...

Is there any advantage (fuel economy, H.P.) to keeping the AIR system??

The AIR system is for emission control system, it basically pumps air into the exhaust diluting the tailpipe emissions.

Since your cats are going away the AIR system serves no real purpose and causes a drag on the engine.

well the truck produces the same amount of emissions...they put air in with it to make it appear that it is less...most are measured in PPM or Parts Per Million....

there is a certain allowable amount per RPM and engine size...not CFM as it should be...

all they do is cheat the test by adding more air to lesson the PPM of the pollutants...

there is still the same amount but if you add air it appears more diluted...

Basically the difference in farting in a paper bag versus an open room....still the same amount of stink...but in an open room it appears more diluted due to the open space....
