Default Not getting codes

Hello guy/ maybe gals too

first post I own a 1992 f150 5.8 efi xlt and the check engine light is on and I've tried using the paperclip but the check engine light just stays on while trying to do the koeo and I'm not getting any where with it I've checked wires and plugs the paperclip sits in the spots fine.

I have looked at the diagram from other post on where to put the paperclip and it' in the correct spots I'm a little worried

I suggest you take it to an auto parts store that will check Codes for you. See what they come up with.

Check the single test connector for voltage, it should be 5 vdc.

does the code reader even start the test? you should hear actuators click and the code reader should show 000. If the code reader can't even communicate with the truck you may have problems with the connector, etc. If the code reader does start the test and you can't get any codes, not a "111" or anything, then you may very well have a dead ecc/ pcm/ computer. I just went through this exact thing. BTW: most FLAP's can't read OBD1 codes.

It will run a KOEO test on a cold engine. That is not what is preventing you from doing the test. I wish I could help more. Search for "OBD1 scanner can not communicate with the ecc/ pcm/ computer" and you should find more info.

Freedmikey - As hudsonce asked, when you plug in the 2 connectors, and depress the ON button, do you get "000"?

Also "Check the single test connector for voltage, it should be 5 vdc."

If you don't have this 5vdc on that single pin connector, the Test will not start, and your Reader will not work.
