Default 1995 F150 V8 shakes and loses speed at certain speeds

I'm posting this for my Mom it is her truck. My mom has a 1995 f150 with a v8 auto transmission she has around 170,000 miles. The truck doesn't always do this but it does it quite a bit. It seems to me that it likes to jerk around at certain speeds. Like 55 MPH is one that it does it. The truck loses power when trying to drive at that speed and it will shake(jerk). If you push on the gas pedal a bunch of times it seems to finally let up and run right. We had a mechanic test the catalytic converters and he said they were good. Anybody ever had this issue?

Does the steering wheel shake? Jerk back and forth. and your mom takes her foot off the gas and slows down till it stops shaking?

You can be accelerating to a certain speed or just driving 55 MPH. Then the truck loses power. While the truck is going slower because of the loss of power the truck is jerking. It seems like it is more of a fuel or loss of fire issue. I don't think that it is in the transmission seems to be more of a motor issue. Now when it is doing that if you just stomp on the gas pedal a bunch of times it will gain its power back. I'm going to try and think of another way to explain exactly what the truck is doing.

No, the steering wheel doesn't shake. The truck loses power but it also jerks. The only other way I can think to explain is if you run out of gas you know how for that short time you truck would jerk because of running out of gas. That is about the best way I can explain. Now I'm talking about if you stomp the gas pedal a bunch of times it will gain power back. Like I said it seems to be a fuel or fire problem.

Ok, I'll go first: Restricted fuel filter! Creating a condition known as the dreaded "Restricted Fuel Filter Death Rattle!" Not to be confused w/ the "Failing Fuel Pump Death Rattle!" or any other kind of rattley stuff, dead or otherwise!

I was thinking more about it and maybe sputtering would be a better word to use. For instance again you can drive 55 MPH and its running fine for a while then all of a sudden it will start sputtering and losing power. But I have never seen the truck do this for instance at 65 MPH. If you drive at that 65 MPH it never does this. There are some lower speeds than 55 MPH that it does this but can't really remember what they are. I am going to start with the fuel filter... It really seems like a fuel or fire issue.
