Default 1995 f150 tranny problem

I just bought a 1995 F150 4x4 with a 4.9l/m5r2. The truck is in great condition with 135k miles, but when shifting into second gear the syncro seams to make a lot of noise. It doesn't grind at all, and after changing out the fluid it quieted down quite a bit. Seems to have a leak that caused it to run low. Should I put some Lucas additive and just ignore it? I cant hear it when the radio is on. Or is it possible to have the syncro repaired and save the transmission without doing a complete rebuild? Thanks in advance to anyone who may be able to help me!

In order to replace the syncro rings the gear carrier needs to be disassembled.
In other words the transmission is torn down so at this point you might as well replace anything that needs to be replaced the labor cost will not be much higher. while your transmission is out of the truck you might just go ahead and have to transfer case inspected too.

I think I am going to try and find a used transmission from an auto dismantler and just install it myself. Should be a lot cheaper than taking it to a shop. I would hate to have to drop upwards of $1500 on a truck I just bought. Does anyone have any input on the Lucas additive? I dont really wanna immobilize the truck with a tranny swap as it is my transportation to school every day.

i've always put lucas in any old truck i have had and i have never replaced a tranny yet so i will vouch for it i think its good stuff i had a 1990 ranger and the tranny slipped all the time i put that in it and used it for a work truck and pulled boats with it for a year and 17,000 miles then sold it to a friend who drove it another 10,000 before the engine finally took a dump but tranny was still holding up

My mechanic (shop owner) tells of starting to use Lucas products in a fleet he serviced on contract. It worked well enough that the client was able to extend the life of the fleet vehicles 2 to 5 years. He thinks enough of the products to use them in his personal vehicles.

I went ahead and added some Lucas Transmission Fix and I have been driving the truck for about a week now. The transmission now makes no noises, and shifts easily like it should. When I bought the truck the manual trans was making bad noises when I would shift, especially on downshifts. After changing the fluid and adding the Lucas additive, I am very impressed with this stuff!
