Default 1995 F150 5.0 rough idle issues

Alright so I have a 1995 F150 with the 302. My problem is when i start her up she'll idle rough and if I try to drive it when this happens it runs very rough and attemps to stall whenever i come to a stop. The thing is though I haven't been able to figure out when it's going to do this. I can usually feel the rough idle when I start it and all I do is turn it off then right back on and she'll run fine. Now this is true for 80% of the time. The other 20% it will continue to do this no matter how many times I restart it. I haven't been able to pin point when it's going to happen because it happens so randomly. I do have the dual tanks and I've been leaning towards fuel pump because here recently I've noticed it never starts bad on the rear tank only the front. Even though both work I've always used the front tank and rarely put gas in the rear. I'm very hesitant on changing anything right now because like I said I can't figure out when or why it happens. Any suggestions??

Check the fuel pressure on the front tank then compare it to the reading you get when you check the rear tank. Pressure should be between 35-45 psi. Probably wouldn't hurt to check your filter also.

I was having similar symptoms in my 5.8. Replaced my fuel pump and nothing. Bought a new IAC and fixed the issue.

Gidday guys;
sometimes my idle is also a bit unstable.... I've plans to machine an aluminium hand operated iac valve in such manner that I can adjust the idle a bit higher when cold. To me an iacvalve is an unnessessary item on the truck.

best regards Ton

Ok so would the iac valve cause it to act up while driving? The problem starts when I initially crank it. If it cranks normal then it drives like a dream and never messes up but if it starts bad then it runs bad the whole time. If the problem happens on start up I can usually just restart and the problem goes away.

More so at idle.

Clean & test IAC. http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=39

Run error code scans. https://www.f150forum.com/f10/how-re...es-obdi-10907/

Sounds like a Seafoam treatment may prove beneficial.

Ford already makes the part you are referring to. Its called a rough idle controller for a 5.0 fox body mustang. It has 2 set screws which allow you to make the adjustments you need to. Its only about $60.00 bucks. I"ve used the part on all of the mustangs that I've owned and it it works. Here's a link to one I found on e-bay.
