I would not use a set of used hubs. Get a set of WARN hubs. They are stronger than stock, and not that expensive. Its a direct install, no conversion needed. What we would do when we went to the mud hole is leave one unlocked keep the truck in 4-low and have a blast. Whe the truck would not go in 4-low. The passenger would get out lock in the right hub and away you would go.

Go with the Warn, they are really good and not super expensive.

Yes leave one unlocked and play in 2 low. Then when you get stuck the B***H gets out and locks it in.

i have a 92 supercab, that i bought with automatic hubs (push button 4wd). i roasted the autos in no time in a clay pit, and that next afternoon i was out there putting in some mile marker manual locking hubs. they work amazing. go somewhere like autozone or advance auto, they sell the hubs as well as the conversion kit. it takes about 15 min each side, maybe a little more if you dont have the right tools.. its pretty much just taking out all of the automatic hub hardware and replacing it with the conversion kit and new hub. it was funny, at first when i pulled out the old autos there were like 20 or more pieces all crammed in, and then i glanced at the new manuals and it was literally three pieces - a lot less can go wrong

oh, you said leave it in 4-low with only locked in until you get stuck. lol

but still, then you'd only have driver side axle turning the front driveshaft. sounds like a bad idea to me, but thats just me. ill just like in both before i get stuck and think i might need 4WD for somethin like ive been doin. lol

If its an open diff its not hurting anything, plug you wont get it over 45... You can use 4 low to spray mud, do donuts, whatever... ALOT more fun than just goin thru the same hole over and over in 4wd..

almost everything around here you dont even need 4WD if you know how to drive. theres only one place i can think of, and my stock bronco made it on street tires and the water was above my wheel wells.

around here 4wd is a must if you wanna play in the mud, the clay swallows trucks whole
