Default 1995 4.9 300 turbo?

So here's what I'm about to attempt. I want to turbo my 95 l6. As simply and strait forward as possible. Thinking about using a T3/T4 style turbo intercooled, about 6lb of boost max. 24lb injectors, and see what happens.
I've read where turboing them has been done but seems like everyone that does goes way over board. what advice can i get on this?

since you are running EFI, you can use a blow off valve to set the maximum boost pressure to what ever you want. 6lbs is ok, but i think you might be happier with 10lbs of boost, which is about the maximum you can run with a stock bottom end without issues.

as for the turbo itself, make sure you get one designed to handle a 5 liter engine, otherwise you will run into an issue called turbo surge which can be quite damaging to an engine.

by the way the blow off valve will do double duty in preventing over pressure with the throttle closed.

good info! I will look into adding one on my system. 10lbs seems kind of high? would it require a tune to handle that kind of boost?
forgot to add that im trying to do this as cheep as possible. Im a sheet metal fabricator so I will be making all piping and turbo mounts myself to save on cost. I

ten psi wont need anything special, except the larger injectors you already have planned. you might add a dual vacuum advance distributor to retard the timing under boost. the vacuum can you are looking for has two vacuum nipples, one in the normal position, and one on top of the can. you ignore the one on top of the can, and run the vacuum line to a place that will both vacuum and boost pressure. that way when the boost hits, it will automatically retard the timing.

What should I do about all my systems that require vacuum pressure. PS,HVAC
Can I just run a new line on the intake side of the turbo or would that not be enough vacuum?
The motor has an egr delete and smog pump removed. If that changes anything.

you can run a vacuum line to the intake side of the turbo, most of the time that will provide enough vacuum. if it doesnt though you can still run the lines to an intake vacuum source, and use a check valve to prevent boost pressure from causing problems, or better still, find a vacuum pump from either a 6.9/7.3 ford diesel, these are engine driven pumps, or get an electric vacuum pump from something like a mid 80s olds diesel powered car. either one will solve your vacuum issues if you have any.

that goes without saying.

by the way, one thing when boosting an engine, you want to drop the compression ratio down to about 8.5:1 or a bit less.

How are you going to lower the compression? Milling the cast Pistons down will just make them more prone to failure at 10 psi boost. You might want to look into some forged Pistons.
