1993 f-150 4.9l 5 speed manual
hi everyone!! thanks for all the help..
i have 2 questions.. my 93 has 70,000 miles on it... i notice the lifters (i think?) rattle some when i am at idle.. is that normal? also if i park on a incline sometimes it rolls back some real slowly when i have it in 1st gear..
i am going to be changing the trans fluid this week. should that help?
thanks,
danny

1) No - lifter rattle, or any rattle, should not be considered normal. How has the truck been maintained over its life? Thinking that 70K on an 15-year-old truck is relatively low miles - wondering if the oil was changed regularly, if it was driven only for short trips, etc. If not, one suspect would be sticky lifters. Another suspect might be a small exhaust leak - sounding more like a 'tic'.
2) Given you have a manual tranny - don't think that changing the tranny oil will help - but it's certainly not a bad idea as part of general good maintenance. If I understand you correctly, the truck rolls backwards in 1st gear with the engine off??? First thoughts would be a slipping clutch or an engine with extremely low compression, - or a really steep incline :-)~
