1993 4.9L wont start
I bought the truck in March and it has been in my drive way since. It didnt run when i got it.
When i got it it had new pugs, wire, distributor cap. I bought a new battery since the old wouldnt charge. It would start after spraying some starting fluid in it but it idled rough, high and low then it would die. I replaced the fouled plugs, and checked the plug wires to make sure it was in the right order. Then it just would nt start at all. It would make an attempt with the starter fluid but nothing. I tested the fuel pump at 42psi which over an hr it dropped to 36psi and stayed there. I replaced the TBPS/IAC/O2 sensor with no change. replaced the vacuum lines with no change.
Finally i replaced the MAP Sensor 2 days ago and it started right up and idled better then it has since i have had it. since it wasnt tagged/insured i didnt take it out. Turned over later that same day and it started up so I drove it a couple of blocks never exceeding 25 mph and it was a hurkey jurky ride. Today i tried to start it up and it was just like before the MAP sensor, nothing.
The difference that i noticed was the fuel pump constantly running when the key is turned; but for that brief time it ran decent, the pump only kicked on for a few seconds. It is running rich and has been every time it would start. I think its flooding itself out.. I had codes when i finally got it running but after it idled for a while the codes cleared up and the engine light when off. I cant find the codes i wrote down, i remember 10/116 and another one. but of course since it isnt running it wont throw codes. I am at a loss and a little irritated. Please help me out. Thanks

Old Gas could be the problem.
Since the engine hasn't run in over 6 months
and
if the gas tank is 1/4 full of old gas,
you may consider draining or pumping out the old fuel from your tank.
and add one 12 oz. bottle of fuel dryer to gas tank.
(The old gas may have absorbed some water)
If the gas tank is 1/4 empty or less just add fresh gas with a bottle of dryer also.
Good luck!

I know below is an over-kill, just want everyone to know...
92/93 Octane / Premium / Hi-Test Gasoline will last six (6) months and longer. (Stabilizer Additives are still added to Premium Gasoline)
87/89 Octane / Regular Gasoline loses some light fractions due to evaporation in
90 days or less since 2005, when President Bush lifted the fuel stabilizer additive requirements of regular gasoline for U.S. Oil Refineries because of the damage
Hurricane Katrina did to the Gulf of Mexico oil drilling platforms/rigs.
In 2005 when regular gas prices shot up over $3.00 and many
Gas Stations ran out of fuel for days, that's when Pres. Bush lifted the additive requirements, so large volumes of gasoline could quickly be available on the U.S. market.
89 Octane Gasoline is just a blend between the 87 and 92/93 octanes, mixing together while pumping into a vehicle's gas tank.
Adding a Fuel Stabilizer to old / stale gasoline will not do any good!
I would not put the old fuel in a lawnmower or chainsaw either.

I tried pulling codes while turning over the engine and got nothing.
As for the gas.. It was at a quarter or so when i got it and started it up enough trying to find out why it ran so rough and ran it to the E line and put a 1/2 a tank back in it. The gas in it is pretty fresh, but i will try some additives. it sure cant hurt and will be cheaper than buying another sensor.

It will not give codes unless its running. No codes thrown with the key turned on. My reader just sets for a couple of minutes then shuts off. I have only gotten it to give codes when running.
