Question Fuel tank not used in a long time.

I have a 1995 which I got a while ago. It has dual gas tanks. According to the previous owner, the back tank was not used for a long time. I would like the option to use it but I worry about just filling it up and maybe having junk it there that wouldn't be good getting in the engine. I was thinking of putting in a couple of gallons with some cleaner, letting it slosh around awhile and then pumping it out. Any thoughts on this or other suggestions on bringing an old tank online?

Most times it wasn't used because it leaks or the pump died. I would just try it with 3 or so gallons and see what happens. Have a new fuel filter ready to throw in,.

Cleaning out the tank isn't a bad idea either.

When I got my truck, the rear tank hadn't been used in a while. I removed the fuel filter and directed the fuel line into a 5 gallon bucket. Then I jumped the fuel pump relay under the hood with a paper clip until the fuel ran all the way out. Then I put on a new filter and filled it up with gas. Runs great with no problems, I probably could have added some fuel injector cleaner but it all worked out.
